Who We Are & Our History:

Kevin Fernandez began apprenticing at the age of fourteen under violinmakers, wood carvers and master finishers.  For over four decades he has been producing masterpieces with any piece of wood he can get his hands on.  In 1977, with his wife Rebecca, he opened The Mad Woodchuck in their shop in Los Gatos, California.  Now, after more than 35 years of business, with his two sons Zachary and Eli, “the Fernandez touch” can be recognized in every piece of work they produce.  As a family business, “the boys” turn out showpiece after showpiece, often conceived and designed by Rebecca, the pencil-to-paper artist of the team.  Her designs and their products can be seen in the finest homes and establishments all across the western states.

Kevin is a member of the advisory board for CCOC and the Guild of American Luthiers, a charter member of the International Wood Collectors Society, and has won countless international awards for carving and musical instrument making.

Renowned for authentic restoration and a commitment to quality, The Mad Woodchuck has completed a myriad of projects for discriminating clients.  We strive for excellence in everything we do; from our relationships with each other, our vendors and our clients, to the finishing touches of each and every project.  We believe in honesty, integrity and an extra large helping of fun in our lives.   It’s what keeps us turning out exemplary work day after day.  We look forward to working with you.
