DOORS AT VILLA MONTALVO

This is the BEFORE photo of the door at Villa Montalvo

History of doors at Villa Montalvo:

James D. Phelan brought the doors from a castle in Granada Spain. At the time, the doors were made the reconquest of Spain from the Moors was underway (1482).

The crests at the bottom of the doors are those parts of Spain that were reunited under the reign of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand who are depicted on the second panels from the top. Their crests are shown united by their marriage.

The other figures are Spanish conquistadors, poets, and scholars.

Re-Carving

It was necessary to recarve sections of this beautiful Austrian shepherd boy that was nearly destroyed in the 1989 earthquake.  Today he watches his flocks completely restored to his original value.

Mr. Fernandez collects the antique tools to aid in the restoration of these fine pieces as only they can recreate the splendor that were yesterday's masterpieces.
